The Catseyes
Around Waste's Edge, posters inform that the Lord of Uzdun’kal seeks for adventurers to accomplish an unspecified task. Interested people should meet Ynar Hammerhand for further details at the Redwyne Inn. This will activate The Messenger quest.
The Gates of Uzdun'kal
If Marcella does not care to talk to Ynar Hammerhand, or cannot convince him to let her participate, she may try to talk her way past the Dwarves that guard the entrance to the deeper levels of Uzdun'kal. This will be more difficult than convincing Ynar, but it gives Marcella a second chance if she upset him. Marcella can get this quest from Helmerk Axehaft, who is rather more forthcoming than most Dwarves about their internal affairs.
Messenger
If Marcella has read the dwarvish posters, she may talk to Ynar Hammerhand about that topic. Otherwise it will take some persuasion before Ynar reveals his affairs. In any case, he does not think that Marcella would fulfil the Dwarves’ requirements. Only with much effort will she be able to convince him. She needs to be careful not to upset him, though. Once Ynar deems her suitable, he will give her a Uzdun'kalat Signet that will get her past the guards of Uzdun’kal without trouble.
The Path to The Door
Several Rangers and other folk have followed the call of the Dwarves. Before one of them will finally be assigned the quest, they’ll have to undergo a number of tests, so that the best of them may be determined. With a bit of luck, and possibly some tricking, Marcella can win the test prepared by Kord Blackhammer. If she fails the test very badly, she may still try to capture Alek for the Dwarves, but she won’t get any further help from them.
The primary task is to blaze a path to the two doors that open into Khel'rok - the Cold Halls - and to evict any evil that has taken up residence there. These doors are referred to by the Dwarves as though they were one - The Ancestor's Door. The path that leads to the door also comes very near the surface entrance to Khrenzlha'rok
If she succeeds, Kord and the other Dwarves will supply her with some of the things she will need if she is going to brinkg Alek Endhelm to justice. Among the skills and items offered to her are Thorig's Mace and a lesson in Runecraft.
The Lord's Command
If she proves herself in one or more of the tests, Lord Thorig Axehaft will tell her of the business with Bjarn Fingolson, Alek Endhelm and the Catseyes, although Marcella might have heard some vague rumours in Waste’s Edge already. The Dwarves aren’t after the Catseyes, which were of low quality anyway, but they want to get hold of Endhelm, to put him to trial and to ensure he receives his just punishment. Unfortunately, Lord Axehaft does not know about Alek’s whereabouts, so he advises Marcella to ask around at Waste’s Edge.
Thorig's charge to Marcella is this: Root out Alek Endhelm and to bring him into the Hall of Anvils for judgement by the Seven Lords. The Dwarves do not care what else she may do to him. If Marcella is also trying to convict the praline thief, she can take him back to Waste's Edge to answer for his other crimes before escorting him to the Hall of Anvils. If she chooses to bring him before Talan and Jelom, they will jail him for a day and a night, then release him to be punished by the Dwarves. Marcella would even be allowed to force Alek to guide her along a safe path through the swamp before turning around to bring him before the Dwarves.
