Thorig Axehaft forged this mace with his own hands, intending to give it to the champion who could clear a path to a ancient, door now threatened by wild werebadgers and the mystic taint that pervades those places frequented by Khrenzlha'rok.

Thorig, intending his newfound champion to hunt down and capture the Thief of the Cateyes and then deliver him still breathing to the judgement of the Seven Thrones, forged the mace as a weapon of law and self-defense, according to what he knew of human warriors of law. Furthermore, he chose mace over axe because when a Khuzdun'at thain bestows an axe on one of his warriors, he expressly permits him to kill where he must to fulfill his thain's command.

Thorig did not mean either champion or mace to bring death to the Thief, so he marked it instead with runes of strength and self-defense. The handle of the all-steel mace bears the Rune of the Anvil, which blesses the wielder with great resiliency in combat (Hardness+2). The mace's shaft is marked with the long, slender Rune of Rivers. Thorig chose the Rivers as his second mark both because he is the Riverthain, but because water cannot be struck - not even by falling mountains. The Rune of Rivers gives the bearer agility+2. Finally, Thorig chose the Tempering Rune to fill the champion's mind with greater strength and clarity. This Rune bestows Willpower+1.

Marcella can only carry Thorig's Mace while she serves him in pursuit of a specific command, though depending on what she learns about Albrecht, Alek, and Khrenzlha'rok during her adventures, Thorig may command her to hunt down and destroy Alek's master after bringing Alek to stand trial.
