During the Marring of the World and Venag Danir's Second War against the Powers, the Darkness made many attempts to mix prime and animal stock, with a variety of results. Many of these curses breeds still exist in some form. Most of these types of werebeasts are neutral, though a few are specifically good or evil. Werebeasts retain the special abilities of their primes races of origin, but with certain alterations based on their animal nature. Mos of, the animal in any werebeast is mammalian. Werebirds and Werereptilians are very rare indeed.

For example, Half-Elvish werebeasts have a racial preference for beast songs, Horsemages are inherently more talented with the Earth element, and the Wings of the Powers have a special affinity for Air magicks. At the same time, mingled Elves, as well as most other werebeasts, suffer an alignment penalty. In the case of the Wings of the Powers, this is irrelevant, as most of the Harpies are entirely evil. In the case of others, like the Horsemages, the alignment penalty means that they have trouble dealing amicably with members of their respective races and are often viewed as sub-human, or not truly Elvish.

Werebeasts also take benefits on the basis of their animal halves. For example, ursines (or ursanthropes) have a racial bonus to strength, equines, including centaurs and horsemages, have a bonus to carry capacity, and lupines, Vulpines, and canids all possess a racial bonus to agility.
