A dagger is essentially a knife that is designed speficically for use in combat. There are many styles of dagger to choose from, including kindjals, stilettos, poignards, dirks, and krys knives.

Most daggers are forged from iron or steel. Relatively few daggers are forged out of specialized metals like silver, copper, or bronze, mostly because they are less durable than iron and steel and also because they are forged for very specific uses. For example, the Priests of the Amber Hand carried silver, leaf-shaped daggers into combat with them. As another example, the Celandi carry bronze daggers called red athames, symbolizing their embrace of the power of blood.

Dual-blade combat is a technique common to those who care little for the rule of law. Typically, the dual blade stylist utilizes a large blade like a longsword in the offensive hand and a shorter blade like a dagger in the shield hand. Not all stylists keep to this convention, however, choosing instead to wield a pair of much smaller blades.

The Athame is a special category of dagger that is used connection with the pursuit of the mystical arts, including alchemy, magick, and the near-magick of Syulvan songs. An athame works as a normal dagger unless augmented by alchemy, magick, or runecraft.

Bronze Dagger

Bronze daggers are now something of a rarity, but they can still be found because they are less expensive to make than heavy metal daggers while still being useful for some tasks. Bronze daggers cannot pierce anything more substantial than good, but in a fight with lightly armoured foes, they can still be useful.

Steel Dagger

Steel daggers are more durable than iron or bronze daggers.

White Athame

A white athame is usually crafted of tempered iron. They are used exclusively by mystics of good will. Occasionally, they are crafted out of durable crystal or silver.

Black Athame

Black athames are usually shaped out of untempered iron or obsidian. Occasionally, they are carved out of bone. Black athames are evil things, so equipping them requires evil alignment.

Red Athame

Red Athames are crafted exclusively out of bronze. They are generally carried by Celandi or Red Witches. Such a blade, if crafted for one of the Celandi, is evil and requires evil alignment. If one such is crafted by or for the Red Witches, it requires a neutral or good alignment.
