The longsword is a standard melee weapon for many Human, Half-Elvish, and Elvish groups.

Longsword is a general term, but as a rule, longswords feature double edges that are roughly parallel for most of the length of the blade. They can be wielded with one hand or with one and a half hands at most. Zweihanders, while they are in construction similar to longswords or bastard swords, are in fact greatswords.

The longsword and the broadsword are sometimes confused, but the broadsword is usually somewhat shorter and rather more trianguar in shape.

Many other swords that might be considered longswords but feature only one sharpened edge are classified in the Adonthell world as exotic weapons. Weapons like sabres, scimitars, falchions, and the like fall into this category.
