Torso armour includes padded clothing, leather vests, leather armour, chain shirts, splint mail, and heavier armours like metallic plate armour. Most torso armours cover the wearer from shoulders to mid-thigh and are belted at the waist.

Light and medium armours like padded clothing, leather vests, and chain shirts typically cover both the torso and the arms. Heavier, more rigid armours like leather armour, splint mail, and half-plate armours do not cover the arms. The heaviest armours, such as full plate suits, also provide arm coverage, but add a strength requirement and a penalty to movement.
