Bracers are worn on the forearm and augment the protection offered by gloves and chest armour. Bracers can be worn individually, or in pairs. They are usually a feature of light armours, since heavy chain gloves or plated gauntlets offer superior protection to both the hand and the forearm.

Heavy bracers are sometimes, but not always, favored over bucklers and shields by the lawless elements of society, since they offer the wearer some chance of blocking and parrying an enemy's melee attacks without being as cumbersome as a buckler or true shield.
